After a cross country trip Craig and Steve have returned safe and sound from the USA Canada Lions Leadership Forum in Anchorage. They brought back many great stories and memories, and we just wanted to give a big thank you to all who stopped by our booth at the show. We showed off several new custom Lions Club pins at the booth this year, but I think our greatest attraction was our new Lions Fundraising idea products and lions club awards. If you did not make it out to the show this year and want to see what you missed just send us a quick email by clicking on the link above asking to see our new Lions Club products and we'll be happy to get you samples out. You can also see samples of our new crystal key tag here and our etched medallion award plates here. If your club is looking to raise some funds through a new innovative product then you should also check out the Wipe It Now screen cleaners here.
I hope all of you who attended the show learned a lot to take back with you to your districts and we look forward to seeing you next year in Tampa!
P.S. - For those of you who actually call in and talk to Craig and I, make sure to ask Craig how his trip up the mountain was. Better yet send Craig an email here: craig@we-belong.com and let him know the benefits of taking a flashlight out into the woods at night.

Fast forward two months to January 8th, 2011 to the Lions Club International Indiana Midwinter Conference and I had the pleasure of meeting not just Mr. Lovati, but also several students from the school. Each and every one of the students was proudly wearing their custom made lions pin and each came by our booth to express their gratitude for us having made them. They were thrilled they finally had their own custom lions pin just like the 'grown ups' that sponsor them. The lions club emblem turned out to be a great lions fundraising idea for them, and it was a pleasure to see all of their smiling faces as we met them.
I will always appreciate the thank you note they typed for me in braille as it is displayed proudly in my office.
Lions Club International - MD 25 Midwinter 2011
See you all soon!
Melvin Jones, a look into Lions Club International and Lions Club History
We talk a lot on here about Lions Club Pins, Lions Club Patches, Lions Club Coins, and other Lions Club Fundraising ideas, however we have yet to talk about the origins of the Lions Club. I wanted to take a minute to write a little about the Lions Club history, and it’s founder Melvin Jones. Melvin Jones was born on January 13th, 1879, raised in Chicago, and a leader in Chicago’s business elite circle in the 1910’s and 20’s. Upon realizing the scope of his success and potential, Melvin along with fellow business associates decided to turn their ambitions toward civil service for the greater good of their communities, and thus the idea of the Lions Club was born. I encourage you to do a little research on Melvin. His vision and dedication deserve your time. You can also see more in regards to Melvin’s Memorial here.
A Sweet Lions Club Fundraising Idea: Sweet Corn Festival
When you think of Lions Club International events, the pancake breakfast and fish fry probably come to mind first. The Millersport Lions Club took the idea of a food event a step further and started a Sweet Corn Festival over 50 years ago. This has become a long and proud tradition for Millersport Lions Club members and the local community. The Sweet Corn Festival is held Wednesday through Saturday before Labor Day at the shady Historic Lions Park in Millersport, Ohio. Since 1947 it has been the annual fundraising project for the Millersport Lions Club. The main attraction is the hot butter flavored sweet corn served fresh on the cob and piping hot. For those who feel guilty afterwards, there is also a 5-K Run, square dancing and strolling around to the many historical exhibits. The children can enjoy the sweet corn guilt free and also watch tractor pulls, farm animals, the grand parade, the large midway and participate in children’s contests.
Friday and Saturday evenings feature performances by Nashville country music stars and a chance to win 10,000 dollars! This four-day community event is a major source of income for over 100 non-profit charitable organizations. Check out their festival website at www.sweetcornfest.com and see if you can attend, or possibly hold a similar fundraising event for your Lions Club. They say it’s ear-resistible!
New Lions Club Fundraising Merchandise in 2010
Custom Lions Club Coins are probably the product we are most excited about for Lions Club members. The excitement could be due to the fact that we love designing and making Custom Lions Coins, and have been providing service organizations with coins for 32 years. But we also know how much money can be raised with Lions Club Pins and have seen the same success with our coin customers. Ideas for custom Lions Coins include: acknowledging outstanding effort and contribution; thanking a volunteer; promoting unity between clubs and districts; and celebrating special events like anniversaries or promotions.
Lions club patches are also a new officially licensed Lions Club product for 2010. Yes, we also have many years of experience with designing and producing patches for all types of organizations. From Police Departments to Motorcycle Clubs, we've provided patches as small as one-inch and as large as 20-inches. Lions Club Appliqués are also available, which are typically 1-inch diameter patches with an adhesive backing. Appliqués are a fantastic inexpensive option to hand out at conventions as a means of ‘tagging’ your fellow Lions.Lions Club Key Chains are another new item for Lions to use to promote their club, auction off for charity or trade with other Lions Clubs. Our custom Lions key chains are available with all the same options you can find with our custom Lions trading pins.
We'll follow up in the next months with fundraising ideas and examples for how you can use Lions Club coins, Lions patches, Lions key chains and Lions Club pins to promote and raise money for your Lions Club.
